The Standards are prescribed in accordance with the provision of Article 17 of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation.
1Contaminants as referred to these standards shall mean the substance not intentionally added to food, which present in food as a result of production or pollution during the manufacturing, processing, preparing, packaging, transportation, storage, or selling, or as a result of environmental contamination, but do not include insect fragments, hairs and other extraneous foreign matters.
2Toxins as referred to these standards including the mycotoxins, marine bio-toxins and natural toxins in plant origin.
3The scope of these standards does not include the residues of pesticides, veterinary drugs and processing aids; the tolerance of atomic dust and radioactivity contamination, polychlorinated biphenyl and dioxins; and the microorganisms and microbial toxins that are within the Sanitation Standards for Microorganisms in Foods.
The maximum levels of metals in foods shall meet the standards in Annex table 1.
The maximum levels of mycotoxins in foods shall meet the standards in Annex table 2.
The maximum levels of other contaminants and toxins in foods shall meet the standards in Annex table 3.
1The Standards shall be implemented on January 1, 2019.
2The promulgation of amended Appendix 1 to Article 3, Appendix 2 to Article 4, Appendix 3 to Article 5 on June 17, 2020 shall be implemented on January 1, 2021.
3The promulgation of amended Appendix 3 to Article 5 on February 4, 2021 shall be implemented on July 1, 2021.
4The promulgation of amended Appendix 3 to Article 5 on May 31, 2022 shall be implemented on July 1, 2024.
5The promulgation of amended Appendix 1 to Article 3 on March 28, 2024 shall be implemented on July 1, 2024.
6The promulgation of amended Appendix 1 to Article 3 on November 28, 2024 shall be implemented on January 1, 2026.
