Standards for types and tolerance levels of pathogenic microorganisms and health-hazard materials in pet food

The Standards are stipulated in accordance with the provisions of the second paragraph of Article 22-4 of the Animal Protection Act.
1The terms in the Standards are defined as follows:
21. Content of aflatoxins: the total content of B1, B2, G1 and G2 aflatoxins.
32. ppm: milligrams per kilogram.
1The following pathogenic microorganisms shall not be detected in pet food:
21. Salmonella
32. Listeria monocytogenes
43. Pathogenic Escherichia coli
54. Clostridium perfringens
1Maximum Content of Mycotoxins in Pet Food:
21.Aflatoxins：0.02 ppm.
32.Deoxynivalenol (DON,Vomitoxin)：
4(1)2 ppm(For dogs).
5(2)5 ppm(For cats).
63.Fumonisins (B1+B2)：5 ppm.
74.Zearalenone (ZEN)：0.2 ppm.
85.Ochratoxin A ：0.01 ppm.
96.T-2 toxin：0.05 ppm(For cats).
1Maximum content of Heavy metals in pet food:
21.Arsenic:
3(1)Feed for pet animals containing aquatic animals, seaweed, and products derived thereof and/or meal: Maximum content in mg/kg (ppm) relative to a feed with a moisture content of 12 % is 10 ppm and inorganic arsenic is lower than 2 ppm.
4(2)Others: 2 ppm.
52.Cadmium: 2 ppm.
63.Lead: 5 ppm.
74.Mercury: 0.3 ppm.
1Maximum content of pesticide residues in pet food:
21. Aldrin and Dieldrin: 0.01 ppm
32. BHC: 0.01 ppm
43. DDT: 0.1 ppm
54. Endrin: 0.01ppm
65. Heptachlor: 0.01 ppm
1Maximum content of preservatives and antioxidants in pet food:
21. Total content of ethoxyquin, Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is 150ppm, and ethoxyquin shall not be more than 75 ppm.
32. Sodium nitrite: 100 ppm
1Maximum content of health-hazard materials in pet food:
21. Melamine: 2.5 ppm
32. Propylene glycol: shall not be detected in cat food.
The total radiation level of Cs134 and Cs137 in pet food shall not exceed 600 Bq/kg.
The provisions of Articles 4 and 5 of this Standard, as promulgated on 24th April 2025, shall take effect on 26th April 2025 and shall apply to pet food manufactured on or after that date.
The Standards shall come into force on the date of its promulgation.
